I Fish Because I Love To… and Because My Wife Hates It

Every partnership needs balance.

Some couples share yoga classes. Some binge true-crime shows.
Me? I disappear into a river with a questionable sandwich and zero cell service.

Don’t get me wrong — partnerships are team sports. You have to agree on the big stuff: kids, bills, pizza toppings. But y'all do not agree on what constitutes a “good time.” If she’s all about brunch and spa robes; and you're all about mud boots and mystery bites on 6-pound line so be it, because honestly?

That’s the secret sauce.

Because if he or she loved fishing as much as you do, there’d be no one left to roll their eyes when you come home sunburned, fishless, and grinning like an idiot. No one to politely remind you that “you spent eight hours chasing something you didn’t catch.”

Sometimes partner don’t get it — and that’s fine. They've got their peace and quiet, and we've got ours… kind of.

Fishing can give space to miss one another, to laugh at oneself, and to come home with stories instead of explanations.

So yes — we fish because we love it. And sometimes because our partner hates it. Turns out, that’s what keeps both happy.
