There’s something mystical about a topwater frog.
You can have a tackle box full of proven patterns, confidence baits, and “can’t-miss” rigs… and yet, when the day gets long and the fish get quiet, that urge starts whispering: Throw the frog.
Every angler knows it. It’s not logical. It’s not even particularly effective most days. But it’s primal. Somewhere deep in the collective fishing soul, there’s a belief that if you walk that frog across a pad field just right — slow, steady, and slightly desperate — something magical might happen.
Most of the time, nothing does. You twitch it back to the boat, tell yourself “just one more cast,” and watch another perfect strike zone go ignored. But then… there’s that one explosion. That violent, heart-stopping detonation that makes the whole season worth it.
The frog isn’t about consistency. It’s about faith. It’s about the weird hope that maybe this cast, this time, this spot, the universe will align and a bass will lose its composure completely.
It’s an ode to the irrational side of fishing — the part that keeps us coming back when reason says we shouldn’t.
So yeah, tie one on.
For the faithful. For the frustrated.
Trust the frog.
